OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- The U.S. Energy Information Administration late Thursday morning reported domestic ethanol production in the final week of December sank to the lowest level since just after Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, while blender inputs also tumbled and overall inventory declined about 1%.
Overall blending activity slid 127,000 barrels per day (bpd) in the week profiled to 789,000 bpd, the lowest level since the start of 2022. Along the East Coast, blender inputs sank 39,000 bpd as of Dec. 30 while Midwest PADD 2 inputs tumbled 45,000 bpd and Gulf Coast inputs dropped 1,000 bpd.
EIA reports domestic ethanol production tumbled 119,000 bpd to average 844,000 million bpd last week, the lowest level since the week ended Feb. 19, 2021, while 19.5% lower than a year ago. Over the four weeks ended Dec. 30, production averaged 974,000 bpd, down 87,000 bpd from the same four weeks in 2021.
Total domestic ethanol stocks stood at 24.444 million barrels (bbl) as of Dec. 30, a decrease of 192,000 bbl from the week prior while 3 million bbl more than the same time in 2021.
Stocks along the East Coast PADD 1 declined 46,000 bbl to 7.168 million bbl while stocks in the Midwest PADD 2 added 52,000 bbl to 9.843 million bbl and Gulf Coast PADD 3 supply edged slightly lower to 4.6 million bbl. At the West Coast PADD 5, inventory declined 171,000 bbl to 2.527 million bbl.
