Here is the Country Auction Report as collected by the Beef Farmers of
Ontario Friday.
* REPLACEMENT CATTLE: There were 1,200 head on offer at Brussels.
Calves sold actively at stronger prices. Yearlings sold steady to last
week's high market.

Comments for the week ending June 16, 2022:
Auction markets saw 517 fed steers and heifers come to the market this
week, up 198 head from last week but 106 fewer than last year at this
time. Fed steers sold from $184.31-$196.49, averaging $190.88, down
$0.29 cwt from last week and $32.09 stronger than year ago prices. Fed
heifers sold from $182.35-$194.35, averaging $188.52, down $0.07 from
the previous week and $30.27 stronger than this time last year. Auction
markets reported trade as active with prices steady to barely steady to
last weeks good trade. One auction market reported prices as $2.00-
$3.00 higher mid-week.
The Ontario railgrade market was steady to last week with prices at
$320.00 dressed for steers and $319.00 dressed for heifers, prices were
even with last weeks average. Cattle sold in the market this week are
being delivered the week of July 4th, 2022. This weeks average price for
steers is up $50.00 from this time last year, and the average price for
heifers is up $49.50 from last year.
1,586 fed/cull cows sold through auction markets this week down 574
head from last week and 267 less than this time last year. Cows ranged
from $90.21-$126.85 with a weekly weighted average price of $107.77 up
$3.19 from the previous week and $22.61 stronger than year ago prices.
Auction markets reported good demand with prices steady to stronger
with one auction market reporting prices $2.00-$3.00 higher. Dairy cows
traded up to $5.00 higher and beef cows traded up to $10.00 higher as
reported at the beginning of the week. Beef cow volumes were 385 with
an average price of $113.88., $3.04 cwt higher than last weeks average.
Lighter receipts of 1,847 stocker and feeder cattle sold through auction
markets this week down 2,748 from last week and 2,086 less than the
same time last year. Year to date volumes sold through auction markets
are down from 2021 and 2020 at this time. Auction markets reported
calves and yearlings on a strong active trade at steady prices early on in
the week. Actual prices for most weights were lower than the previous
week. Actual average prices this week saw steers 400-500 lbs down
$29.52 from last week, 500-600 lbs down $22.54, 600-700 lbs down
$29.20, 700-800 lbs down $19.53, 800-900 lbs down $16.96, and steers
900 lbs and over averaged $6.20 lower than last week on average. Heifers
from 300-400 lbs were up $9.12, 400-500 lbs up $11.70, 500-600 lbs down
$12.70, 600-700 lbs down $15.58, 700-800 lbs down $17.67 and heifers
800 lbs and over averaged $11.50 lower than last weeks weighted average
prices.
The Quebec electronic market this week ranged from $312.75-$313.75
dressed cwt on a picked-up basis, down $1.43 from last week on average.
Alberta direct trade for this past week saw lighter volumes. There was no
live trade to report and rail was reported from $292.00-$294.00 delivered.
This week U.S trade was quiet on Tuesday with asking prices from
$138.00-$140.00 live and $230.00 dressed. Later in the day Tuesday and
mid-week trade was reported with prices from $136.00-$139.00 live, up
$2.00 from last week. Dressed trade was reported from $223.00-$230.00
with most trade at the higher end. Prices were reported as higher than
last week.
