Ontario Friday.
* REPLACEMENT CATTLE: There were 875 head on offer at Brussels.
Calves and yearlings sold on a strong, active trade at steady prices.

Comments for the week ending June 23, 2022:
Auction markets saw 464 fed steers and heifers come to the market this
week, down 53 head from last week and 99 fewer than last year at this
time. Fed steers sold from $183.03-$195.10, averaging $189.80, down
$1.08 cwt from last week but $29.32 stronger than year ago prices. Fed
heifers sold from $170.52-$193.53, averaging $182.56, down $5.96 cwt
from the previous week but $23.63 stronger than this time last year.
Auction markets reported trade as active with prices steady to last week
with quality considered. Holstein steers sold higher.
The Ontario railgrade market was steady to last week with prices at
$320.00 dressed for steers and $319.00 dressed for heifers, prices were
even with last weeks average. This weeks average price for steers is up
$50.00 from this time last year, and the average price for heifers is up
$49.50 from last year.
There were 2,056 fed/cull cows sold through auction markets this week up
470 head from last week and 390 more than this time last year. Cows
ranged from $94.56-$127.85 with a weekly weighted average price of
$110.34 up $2.57 from the previous week and $22.55 stronger than year
ago prices. Auction markets reported steady demand with prices steady
to $2.00-$3.00 higher. Auction market reports mid-week were reporting
prices as $5.00-$10.00 stronger than last week and ending comments for
the week were $5.00-$6.00 higher.
Higher receipts of 3,053 stocker and feeder cattle sold through auction
markets this week up 1,226 from last week and 543 more than the same
time last year. Auction markets reported trade as steady with lighter
feeder cattle selling slightly higher and heavier feeder cattle selling steady.
Top quality calves sold $5.00-$10.00 stronger and plain calves sold
steady. Actual average prices this week saw steers 400-500 lbs up $2.43
from last week, 500-600 lbs down $2.39, 600-700 lbs up $10.26, 700-800
lbs up $15.02, 800-900 lbs up $10.88 and steers over 900 lbs averaged
$1.89 lower than last week on average. Heifer prices were down in the mid
weight categories and up in the lower and higher weight categories.
Actual prices this week saw heifers 300-400 lbs were up $1.31, 400-500
lbs down $0.58, 500-600 lbs down $4.06, 600-700 lbs down $2.00, 700-
800 lbs up $13.03 and heifers 800 lbs and over averaged $9.12 higher than
last weeks weighted average prices.
The Quebec electronic market this week ranged from $311.50-$312.25
dressed cwt on a picked-up basis, down $1.50 from last week on average.
Alberta direct trade for this past week saw show list volumes steady to
last week. Dressed sales were reported this week from $292.00-$294.00
delivered which was fully steady to last week. Cattle traded this week are
for late July / early August delivery. Thursday saw light trade develop
with live sales reported at $175.00 FOB.
This week in the U.S trade was closed Monday in observation of the
Juneteenth Holiday. Tuesday and Wednesday saw light trade develop
with live prices from $138.00-$147.00 steady to $2.00 lower than last
week, with most sales at $138.00. The dressed trade in the north
reported sales at $239.00 delivered. Some light trade was noted in
Nebraska on Thursday with Choice and Select Steers & Heifers reported
at $145.00-147.00. At time of reporting there has been no new trade to
report.
