The livestock complex closed mixed as the lean hog market found support late in the week, but the cattle contracts were leery of what the cash cattle market was going to do ahead of the day's end and closed slightly lower.

Usda Reports Review

In its Acreage and quarterly Grain Stocks reports on Friday, USDA pegged corn stocks and corn planting much higher than traders had expected. Soybean stocks were a bit higher, but the drop in planted acres caught traders by surprise. Wheat stocks came out higher than expected, and harvested acres were also higher.

Cofco Takes Over Miss. River Terminal

COFCO International Ltd. and Illinois-based Growmark Inc. on Thursday completed a deal announced last week in which Growmark sold its minority stake to COFCO for a grain-loading facility in Cahokia, Illinois. A pair of Illinois members of Congress wrote the U.S. Treasury Secretary questioning the deal.

Thursday will be a busy day for the hog complex especially; but potentially for the cattle market too if cash cattle trade begins to develop, as the morning will release the weekly export report and later in the afternoon the market will see the Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report.
